Initial Pesticide Applicator

Education Program Schedule

Most categories are for restricted use pesticide applications, except for lawn care (04) and structural (08) categories, which require certification for BOTH restricted and general use pesticide applications.

04 Ornamental and Turf Pest Control Applications to protect ornamental trees, shrubs, flowers, and turf, including in and around structures, greenhouses, plant nurseries, golf courses, athletic fields, parks, public or private grounds and turf farms. Includes applications along paths and roads inside parks and other public or private ornamental grounds. Anyone making applications for hire or compensation in this category must be certified. Does not include applications to control structural pests such as termites and carpenter ants, unless the applications are made to protect trees.

Initial Pesticide Applicator Education Program Schedule

Initial commercial/noncommercial certification is based on satisfactory test scores (70 percent) on a general standards exam plus one or more category exams. Persons attending the initial pesticide applicator education program MUST attend the general standards session, and at least one of the category sessions. Schedules may not always allow time for a lunch break between general standards testing and category sessions.
Numbers in parentheses are that category’s number as assigned by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA). You can “self-study” instead of attending one of these training sessions; however, your best preparation is achieved by attending the training and using the study materials. You may attend up to two category sessions at the same location. The Nebraska Department of Agriculture WILL PROVIDE TESTING at all Initial locations.

Pre-registration is required. Consult the program schedule to determine the appropriate location for your desired categories. To assure your registration, complete and return the registration form with your program fee at least 10 working days before the scheduled training session.

Study materials are required for all initial pesticide applicator programs. Order the General Stan-dards manual and the desired category manual(s). Study materials will be mailed to you upon receipt of your order form and study materials fee. Order early and allow yourself preparation time.
